I am not so sure.

Not every person with a certificate has that knowledge.
I have seen some people who couldn't get through the interview stage, even though their files are full of certificates.

So, I just don't know what to say here :(

Certificates are pretty insignificant for me...well they aren't useless i guess.......I don't like them much....
But they are a thing of pride if earned earnestly... :P

They are worth something, they give you a slight edge than someone who doesn't and means you should get paid more.
 
It's good for collecting your achievements and feeling like you have worth. It'll give you a slight edge but a certificate doesn't always necessarily indicate that person is intelligent.

If they aren't intelligent, they forgot everything they learned or somehow manage to cheat which is hard to do.
