Biggest downfall of fairy tail

When did fairy tail start the downward spiral?
Is it because of the time skip? Or is it because of the destruction of the guild?
 
Not moving beyond its repetitive formula, and keeping the characters, setting and setting stale, and having unexciting action sequences that are a far cry from every single good shounen anime out there.
 
I remember REALLY liking it when it came on TV (up to the laxus arc). I think it was just younger me over liking it because probably always was bad. But I watched fairy tale because it was entertaining not because it is good.

It's not a definite main stream anime. I wouldn't think the plot was plain.

Laxus arc was good and I didn't think he was that powerful.

Being in the top 20 most popular anime in MAL definitely makes in mainstream. Sure it doesn't have a Toonami run and isn't the first anime people recommend when they want more shounen but it's definitely mainstream.
And the plot is nothing more than a glorified One Piece filler arc.

Many people agree with you. Fairy tail had potential at first but somehow it became repetitive. I didn't like the time skip myself. It became rather boring after the time skip.
