Are stalkers a big problem in Japan? (anime makes it appear that way)

What are your opinions on this matter?
As for me, I don't think it's that big of a problem and it depends on the area too. What do you guys think?

Don't try and form opinions on any country from the media they produce. It is incredibly ignorant and any native will think of you as a idiot.

I guess it is true that anime could suggest as much, but I agree with Burnsy in that it's not a good idea to form your opinion around anime or something else. Personally I've never heard of it having a stalker problem, but I have heard it has a problem with neets/hikikomori

I remember seeing some articles back when I did reports on Japan, but I don't think it's any more than other nations face.

it's the same everywhere but people think stalking makes someone look popular
so anime uses it a lot and don't fall for it star.
