Funny. I feel like usually the motivations are switched where a person sacrificing lives for a greater good is seen as a Villain from the Point of View o the show. And the protagonist that goes through the hard decision between saving a person and dooming the world because the focus shift revealing the true evil being who put them through that decision in the first place.the anime protagonist will sacrifice you for the world
anime antagonist will sacrifice the world for you
Talk about X.. Sorata sacrifice to his crush (i forgot her name) is sad, and i like that military guy from Earth Dragons (forgot his name too lol), his stance againts Fuuma to intimidate him when Fuuma want to attack that cheerful girl from Heaven Dragon is damn cool. Subaru is also have interesting back story. I think i need to rewatch this seriesFunny. And I don't know, I was talking to today with my family about the trolley dilemma. The rational/mathematical solution. Five lives versus one live. Save more lives: pull the lever; versus the ethical solution. Every life is as important and who are you to play God and choose the fate; versus the actual allegory that at the end of the day it is all trauma that follow for life and you'll feel guilt regardless if you pull the lever or not simply because of being aware of its existence and whatever you chose to do or not to do...
So I guess it is a matter of what do we value more? someone sacrificing us to know the world goes on or someone that loves us so deeply that they are willing doom the world for our sake.
I don't know why but this thread is making me think so much of X-1999. Fuuma and Kamui as potential Protagonist or antagonist.
Showing my age, I know. I know I saw it with my high school mates but it was CLAMP, so it was an overcomplicated mess I can't remember the details.

I don't remember much about X-1999 but I know that Sorata arc really got to me. And... oh, gosh! Subaru was the reason I got interested in the other anime they were from but I don't think I ever watched it completely. Tokyo Babylon, I think? I think it was a friend who filled me up on their backstory.Talk about X..
