i recommend pokemon, digimon, and fir boys, they might like mecha series a lot.
i have heard of gundam but i didn't watch it to recommend it

I believe I was like 12 or 13 when Toonami first aired it, and I rather enjoyed it despite being more into more action packed anime.

Cardcaptor Sakura for sure especially if it's a girl. Ponyo is a fantastic choice to be shown to a kid, it's amazing, and it's also only a movie.
