But, the most popular abridged series is probably Dragon Ball Z abridged by TeamFourStar:

I haven't watched DBZ, so I didn't watch this and wouldn't understand anything, but you can check it out.

There are lots of abridged series on YouTube out there. I'm not sure whether abridged series are popular anymore, but I think they were a big deal once(since each episode of an abridged series of a popular anime is able to generate millions of views).

Watch the hellsing ultimate one! It's the best. Once a year episodes but worth it. Also there's one on gigguk's channel of evangelion and that was gold too. DBZ is way too long to watch a parody of.

I'm pretty much only a fan of Team Four Star, I've tried to check out other team projects like SAO but I just didn't find it any good to be honest.

Love TFS FF 7, DBZ and hellsing series to death! Really a shame to hear they may not do anymore DBZ after Cell arc and Hellsing will most likely be finished this year as well. *Sigh*

I see. I am planning to watch DB, DBZ etc in the future so I am planning to check TFS's series.
I liked the SAO abridged series a lot because I watched it immediately after finishing SAO, and it poked fun at all the dumb elements from the anime, so it sort of resonated with me.

Yep, I watched the first episode of HU's abridged series and it was very good. But I didn't watch Hellsing Ultimate properly so I have to watch the actual anime first.
And, Gigguk's videos are great too. I also recommend his 'x anime in y minutes', like what he did to Attack on Titan, Tokyo Ghoul, SAO, and other anime.

That one was pretty great =)

i don't watch anything other than anime episodes. ova and specials are avoided. only yaoi and shonen so are exceptions

I think I watched it up to ep 9 and I will admit they had good content but the voice acting kind of kept me off from really enjoying it.

These are fan-made parodies that make fun of series using voice-overs.
You avoid OVA's and specials? I understand avoiding specials but OVA's contain canon stuff, and sometimes the actual ending.

i don't have enough patience for watching ovas and i know they are important but not that important if they are not actual episodes

Sometimes OVA's are unaired episodes that the studio didn't finish in time to be shown on TV but yeah I get you.

i watched ai no kusabi and i was disappointed later i get to know that it's how ova are and they don't have enough fundings. so i stopped watching ovas

Here is a good inside focus on what it takes to make an abridge series:
