Well, the thing is, the 'mainstream' anime community is a niche. It's not a lot of people. However, millions of people have heard of Dragon Ball, so they'll obviously watch it, since Dragon Ball is an international phenomena, and not a niche.

i didn't think we are that small people. i don't know anyone around me who watches dragon ball but they rarely watch anime, so may be they don't count

Well that's why only a handful of anime are known to the world, like Dragon Ball, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, Attack on Titan, Naruto, One Punch Man, and probably a few more.
