You should watch Your Name. That's Makoto Shinkai's(creator of this) most popular work and recent work. I do have this in my watch-list but his earlier works sound a bit pretentious to me and he comes across as a bit shallow.

Not author, director. He started out as a digital animator. As for earlier works there isn't a lot, you can count it on your fingers.

I did my research a bit, there are some titles which is he's the writer, i'm interested on watching them
