Why do people care a lot about others looks?

just wondering why?
why do people think they are at the top and want to belittle others? will they have the looks after 30 years? will that have the beauty forever? no but they always think they will
 
People are judgmental, if they see someone who in their eyes are "ugly" or wear something they don't like, they'll make a comment about it. Well not everyone will say these things out loud, my mother in law would since she's narcissistic.

people especially in laws think they can rule over the new additions to the family. i just don't get what goes through their head
