i prefer mecha anytime and not magical girls. may be i should make a thread about happy go lucky magical girls and tragic magical girls like madoka.

Mecha for me man.
Though magical girl troupe is popular now, Mecha used to be popular as well. There is no way to determine the popular genre except for Shonen

Totally agree. This is one reason of many why I love Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. It's got some mecha (especially later on in the franchise) and awesome magical attacks with a decent story/plot.
