Why Kishimoto killed Neji? Why not Lee?

Neji had a lot more emotional support to the group mostly due to being a 'slave' for most of part 1 of the series. Also everyone saw Lee as annoying.
 
i don't think lee would have made a great choice.
he is a comic character but neji is not. he couldn't have chosen lee over neji

Hm.. so his death create more dramatic effect than the other characters

What about Shikamaru?
 
Probably due to Guy being a badass and him sacrificing his legs, with Lee being a somewhat similar character I guess it wouldn't have made that much impact after that. 
Honestly while Neji's death is tragic the way he was killed was comical, death by sticks.

I think Shikamaru was always gonna survive, of all the people from his generation in Konoha, he's the guy given the most importance after Naruto and Sasuke. I mean at the back of your mind you always knew that he'd be the backbone of Naruto after he become Hokage.

As for Kiba or Ino don't think so, Kiba is straight up annoying and is kinda too similar to Naruto, except worse. And I prefer not to speak about Ino.

But with that kind of importance, Shikamaru death might be have greater impact than Neji

I don't think Kishimito himself cared about her, we never got an arc dedicated to her or even in existing arcs she was never a focus.

You remember Sakura vs Ino in the Chuunin exams arc? That fight was a complete joke.

Well yes, to be honest i see Ino as cheerleader of the series haha..

shikamaru is the brains
how could you even think of him as dead? without him naruto can't rule a village

Who knows? That means if he's the one who die, then it would be more dramatic
