Why is manga less popular than anime?

Anime is adapted from manga. Manga has more titles than anime and it has fairly large circulation too.
But most of the people prefer anime over manga even though the manga has lot more interesting content. why is that?
How come people like to watch something rather than reading it?
 
Watching requires less effort, are in colour and brings them out. Also, it is way easier to stumble into a series and being able to complete it than finding all the volumes. 200 episodes sound way more bearable that reading 40+ volumes. That is why I think manga is less popular.

That said I do enjoy both and I try to find the manga of the stories I enjoyed in anime; it is nice to read the original story.

doesn't manga authors make way more than animation companies?
oda sensei even won the Guinness book award.
 
What Kaynil said. And also the fact that anime is broadcasted on TV helps a lot. You can notice that less well known films are just as obscure as you typical manga, even a movie takes hundred times more work hours to produce than any given normal size manga.
 
Anime is more appealing to your senses. Black and white will never compete with color, dialogue box will never compete with voice acting, book cover will never compete with opening song, motionless picture will never compete with motion picture, that's for starter. Just from visual alone is enough to trashed manga, not to mentioned about advertising, broadcasting, media, cultural and other reasons

I did said cultural right? That's it, maybe it's nerd for Japanese, but not for us non-Japanese

people follow culture that's always popular
you can't say it's different and after a while it will come to us too.
i don't want that day to come
