Why is Dragon Ball Z so low in the popularity ranking?

lol but it's as popular as dbs
and i am sure many people know that and are you talking about that variation?

because DragonBall and DragonBall Z never really where true popular in English speaking overseas countries.
My country, Netherlands it never was really that popular.. also England and the USA they always were left behind.
Dagonball was also translated in English but it wasn't a good sold manga at all.
People also say that they didn't really like DBZ from the Cellsaga on. so. yeah..

This is straight up false, except slightly for Dragonball. I can only speak for the US, but DBZ was only second in popularity to Pokémon in the 90’s and early 2000’s. It was basically treated as a religious experience to watch it on Toonami after school.
 
I honestly think DBZ/DBS might be the most popular anime ever. Goku may as well be the anime mascot. I don't know what you are talking about.
 
DBZ is totally popular, but it's true people are pretty critical of it also. I've still not finished the original DB, but my understanding is that DBZ takes the absolute piss when it comes to useless filler episodes.
 
Pretty sure DBZ is still second to pokemon only. Toonami has like 4 new shows to air and they still start the block off with DBZ reruns.
 
It is popular
Sure enough there could be other anime that can have better ratings but after the hype is gone, it's going to climb to the top again.

I think it’s possible that his American friends grew up during the short time period around the mid 2000’s where DBZ kind of fell out of popularity between when Z ended, and before Kai and Uncut came out.

Also since he brought up the manga sales, I mentioned earlier that it came out at a poor time in America, which was around the time the anime ended its initial airing, and it took awhile for manga to get popular. So Americans have more of an attachment to the anime than the manga.

When they brought Shonen Jump to America they only did the Cell Saga, and discontinued it from the magazine, and then only released DBZ in the individual volumes. They only discontinue series from the magazine if they weren’t that popular, and my assumption was that it was basically identical to the anime, so it wasn’t new content and people didn’t bother.

Yu Yu Hakusho lasted because it was heavily censored on TV, and for those watching it on Toonami, we never got past the Dark Tournament. They aired the Sensui arc like once, but then started airing it at 2am, so nobody got to watch it. Yugioh also lasted as it was the “season zero” stuff, and when that ended, they skipped the arcs we already had on TV for years because they learned from DBZ. They jumped straight to the Millenium Arc, which wouldn’t be on TV for awhile.

They did have Naruto and One Piece, but those came out years before we got the anime.
 

DBZ manga is pretty bad in the US, but i think that's because the manga released before the anime. By the way.. what's wrong with YYH? Why the series got heavy censor?

It was mostly uncensored when it was on Adult Swim block, which meant it aired pretty late at night. Then they decided to move it to Toonami which came on right after school let out. So they had to censor it because kids were going to watch it, so they had to appeal to TV ratings. They had to cut out stuff like blood, swearing, and smoking cigarettes.

they censor pretty much everything to the point that it's funny lol
and those kids already knows that things from their parents most of the time
