Why do people find intelligent characters more interesting in anime?

When you're taking your time to enjoy a movie scene, and you find our the character is smart, and not dour, that will surely take your attention. I enjoy smart protagonist characters whenever i am watching any animé movie.
 
I find them as pretty good characters most of the time. Though honestly, there are some smart characters that I hate, because of the fact that they have no part in the anime, other than to be the smart guy, and they do nothing else but fill up time with techno-babble.
 
They relate to them a lot more, due to thinking they are the same, so they love those kind of characters as they see themselves in them.

It's actually a fact that you would love such intelligent anime characters naturally without putting much effort into loving because the way everything they do is scripted, you are bound to love them.
