Why do earphones have markings?

I have been wondering... Is it bad to use the left ear phone for the right side and vice versa?I don't see any difference at all and not all the companies Mark these things either.

Ew gross. Your ears constantly get dirty so it's always better to use only one bud or plug for one of them. Plus they are designed that way to fit each ear better.

I don't think it matter but it might sound a bit off and depending on ones you have they may be designed for a certain side.

Man! This post cracked me up.
I use headphones and I never had any problem with them. It's better to have them than earphones which can damage your ears.

I think some songs actually are made to go in one certain output side, though it really don't matter.

I wonder if they have any major significance but most of the time, it doesn't matter at all.
It's better to ignore or follow it. Either way is fine
