Why are they stupid?

Do you have any idea why most action genre main protagonist in shonen (especially the mainstream one) have to be academically stupid? Yea.. it's the blueprint, but why??
 
Some of them do take place without a modern school of common sense knowledge, like Naruto and One piece where its just either sailing for your life or focus on battle over everything else.

Maybe i'm overthinking but it makes me worried sometimes. Like.. younger audiences becoming lazy to study because they think Naruto is cool even if he's stupid, so they put less importance in their study

Well, people like to watch their funny actions.
That's the reason why most of the protagonists sure pretty much stupid. But not everyone likes that.

They probably make the MC stupid as a mechanism to explain the world to the audience. Retarded MC or the character being truck-Kim’s are the two easiest ways.
