why do you think kyou to is used a lot in anime?
is there a reason for it or do you think it's just a coincidence of sorts?

Kyouto is probably fairly popular in Japan.
I am sure that could be the reason why it's being used a lot in anime.

It's a major city and it's a big tourist attraction because it's one of the old capitols. There's a bunch of old monuments.

Kyoto is the "classic" capitol, and Tokyo is the current capitol, and the largest city. So if you wanna see all the famous historic stuff, Kyoto is the place to go compared to Tokyo.

that's some insight and i never knew
and here i thought may be kyouto got some real strange attachment to anime or something lol

Kyouto is also the sprital capital of Japan. Nearly all the major templs are there. All the middle and highschool classes take trips there so any anime that has gods, sprits, or is slice of life about teens will at least mention Kyouto.
