Yagami Light? Although the anime give him a lot of screen time he is actually the antagonist
L? He died near the end of the series, and he never actually revealed the true identity of Kira
Near? Not much work to do for him and not enough screen time

Protagonist is the character we follow for the major part of the series, and it's Light who's always in front of the camera. And he's also the one who actively drives the plot, so he is the protagonist and L is the antagonist.
Now whether he's the hero of the anime or not is a different story.

L as antagonist sounds weird man.
But you are right and everything started from light and ended with his death.

but light is evil at the end.
i don't want to think of him as protagonist. he is someone good and who fights for everyone

Protagonist is not the same as hero.
i realize that.
i had good expectations for might when he decided to help the world but he acted like a kid with a very powerful gun

But sometimes i do feel Light is right, by exterminating bad guys he instill fear on people, encourage them to not commiting bad things, that way criminality can be surpressed and world would be improve a bit
It's about control..
