When does an anime become hilarious? When does an anime become serious?

what's your take on this?
some serious moments in anime can be very funny if you ask me. lol

I am not sure at this point.
If the situation is dire then it will be serious. If it's a situation, where there is a series of cliches then it becomes hilarious.
