Bakemonogatari for sure, especially the aesthetic and the editing.

It’s a strange mashup of Nisioisin, who has a really strange writing style, coupled with Akiyuki Shinbo, a directors who probably does a ton of hallucinogenic drugs.

Madoka Rebellion is somewhat trippy with the visual style but I felt overall Monogatari was more strange and abstract. Even something like Nisekoi, which is conventional, had a lot of colour and liveliness to it which I'm sure wasn't present in the source material. I have to watch Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei as well.
Shaft's influence is apparent in something like Kaguya-sama as well, which was made by a lot of Shaft staff.

I can definitely confirm Nisekoi had some differences from the manga. I thought Shaft was being really conservative with it, until I read the manga between the airings of season 1, and 2, and when I went back to the show it became noticeable. Though it was really only because I A/B’d it.

Shaft had a lot of fun with Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, maybe a bit too much fun in some points. In either season 2 or 3 they had an episode where they purposely changed the animation style from scene to scene, because they could, and they said they were gonna do it.

It's unfortunate because last I read a lot of employees have left shaft(Kaguya-sama), I hope they don't become stagnant like Madhouse after what happened to them. I always liked it when studios have an identity. Hopefully relatively newer studios like KyoAni and Bones continue to evolve while having an identity.

Shaft’s output diminished greatly a few years ago. They used to release several shows a season, but it seems like Kizumonogatari drained their resources, as there was an obvious drop in output around that trilogy. They had a notorious production hell with that.

IIRC development started around Bake and they kept delaying it. Glad they made it though. I'd rather have films, they usually look/are animated a lot better. And they are more efficient.

They announced it after Bake, because Bake ended in 09, and the film was announced in 10, though 5 years later they then mentioned it was gonna be a trilogy. Though you can see after 2015 they sort of just trickled stuff out, as they were focusing on the Kizu trilogy and Fireworks. Shaft does have a pretty small production staff compared to other studios, so I can see why.

They also recycle a lot of voice actors, because during their heyday, it seems like they just took took the cast and did another show with them. Most obviously with Zetsubou Sensei and Maria Holic. Which is whatever, since some film directors like Kevin Smith and Tim Burton did that a lot.

i never knew the film director names
i should have paid more attention the them as they made cool anime series.
