What would it be like if anime was on TV during prime time?

Anime doesn't' seem to be for everyone.  In fact, it appeals to a sub-culture kind of like jazz.  However, if anime did get exposure on the level of prime-time shows, then would that change things?  Would more people open up to the niche?  Note, it could be a bad thing, though, as it might water anime down, making it generic.

Are you seriously asking this in an anime forum? I don't know whether to call it foolish or bravery or just curiosity.
Everyone here likes anime to no end.
