So what do you all think?
What really is "enjoyment"? Does being "sad" after watching a sad anime considered as "enjoying" the show?

HannahCN said:It depends entirely on your own personality. I like getting dragged through a bunch of different emotions, whether they're sadness, discomfort, or awkwardness. XD Of course I love happy emotions from shows as well, but I've found that there are precious few shows that do *good* happy emotions well. I mean, yeah, there's funny stuff and such, but actual *joy* from a show? I can probably count those on a single hand. Yuru Camp was incredibly relaxing, being as it was a iyashikei anime, and A Place Further Than The Universe actually made me incredibly *happy* - but beyond those, I'd actually have to start thinking.
tl;dr: I like to *feel* things. So yes, in my book, it counts.

Just thought of this other thread where people were asking about crying in front of family and friends, while watching a sad anime
HannahCN said:Toss-up between A Place Further Than The Universe, which leaned more toward melancholy, and Yuki Yuna Is A Hero, which... was basically misery porn. I mean, it was also a simple slice of life story besides that, but yeah. Mostly misery porn. I was *sooooooo* glad when I finished with that one, but at the same time, also really glad I'd watched it. It was weird. XD

This is news to me and I will try to check it out if it's got the saddest stuff. I usually don't pick series but now I am curious myself.
HannahCN said:'Misery porn' isn't actually porn. It's a word used to describe stuff that is just... ridiculously sad and tragic, to the point of sometimes beyond what is needed. Of course for each series it's up to the individual person's judgment, and Yuki Yuna was maybe borderline that, but perhaps... not really? It definitely walked the line, though.
