manga are comics of japan and anime are animation of japan. you can't mistake them now. astro boy if it's a japan made animation, then it's anime and if it has comic then it's manga

Pretty sure this is a anime, granted it was made back in a time when anime really wasn't a thing yet.

But what it's famous(or rather iconic) for is that its anime adaptation, that came in the year 1963, was sort of the first time an entity called anime surfaced. It's the first time a Japanese animated series occupied a 30 minute block on TV and ran for several seasons. That's often why people call it the most influential anime of all time.
