If they’re somewhat older and have been watching anime for a really long time, sure whatever. If they’re pretty young, then they def don’t have a life.
Though to be fair, using a site like MAL could exaggerate the number. With many series having multiple seasons that aired separately as opposed to non-stop, each season is a separate entry. Also each time there’s an OVA (unless it’s like an OVA series or season), that’s also a separate entry for each OVA. So a series with 4 seasons and 6 OVA’s is now considered 10 different anime, easily inflating the number.
