it looks like he wants to gather more evidence before he comes to a decision
so he went ahead and asked the head servant whether he should deliver food to the prince or not.
 
That's a good thing to do
He really needs to learn how to handle things well, without creating any rifts.

otherwise it will be very hard for him to even understand this and he might have had a hard time with other servants
