About Usagi.. why she have that bun hairstyle? Because long ago the author Naoko Takeuchi once dressed in Chinese dress and her hair Chinese style buns, just like Usagi
About Ami.. she was supposed to be a cyborg with artificial intelligent. Naoko's original plan was to make her heavily injured and losing limb, and then dying in dramatic fashion, but this idea was rejected
About Rei.. why is she a shrine maiden? Because when Naoko was young, she was work part time as shrine maiden at Shiba Daijingu shrine
About Makoto.. at first Naoko want to make her the leader of Sailor Senshi, but that idea was given up and she have that idea to Sailor Venus. The original concept of Makoto is she's smoking cigarettes like an adult
About Minako.. very first character created by Naoko, she even have her own series Sailor V long before Naoko write Sailor Moon. She's supposed to be the main protagonist of Sailor Moon but finally Naoko give up the idea because of behind the scene problem
