Ryuk the Shinigami, a wasted design?

I like Ryuk. This time i want to talk about his design, i really like his design, his jokerish mouth, spiky hair, creepy eyes, slender built, long arms, and crowish wings, everything is so Shinigami.

I mean.. give him a schyte and he looks perfect for a combat type shinigami. I satisfied with his role in Death Note but i will more satisfied if we give him a weapon and throw him in Yu yu hakusho or D grayman series and start kick some ass, yes i always thought that his combative design is kinda wasted for a shinigami with pen and book.
 
That's a deep analysis.. you forgot one important thing.. the apple.

He needn't need to have a weapon.. just apples are enough, hihi.

he likes apples too much.
never knew of any death god liking them so much. and i think he looks perfect. with a touch a death god can kill people

Yeah.. Ryuk is oddly a likable shinigami character.. No bias, just enjoying the game along with Light.

Well, that's an interesting description.
Bleach shinnigami got zanpaktou, instead of a scythe :D
He is scary as it is and I don't think he need anymore accessories
 

Well, death note is a very good anime. It's the first anime that people would recommend to non anime fans.
I am not so sure if his design is too good for death note or not

His design is suitable for combat, in Death Note he's not fight at all

In death note, he represents a creature beyond the human realm. He is the death god with good design that looks scary enough to make people believe the same.
Even Rem looks scary in general.

Rem reminds me of skeleton, i mean.. look at his Arms haha..

i agree but i didn't expect him to take light's life at the end.
i was thinking he might have formed a bond and wanted light to live

Ryuk was merely having fun.. I did saw that ending coming.. Neither Light nor Ryuk was friends with each other.. they were just acquitances held together by contract.

even so, look at rem.
she knows what would happen if she tries to save a human and she didn't like misa at first but later when they spend time together, she began to care for her

Aaand yeah.. that is indeed a different relationship between Misa and Rem

we are talking about them and i am trying to understand how ryuk wouldn't come to care for light, even after bring with him all the time.
he even got apples for ryuk
 
Ryuk is more like an outsider in the series who enjoyed whatever Light was doing and loved it when everything started falling apart. Plus the series itself doesn't have any action whatsoever so I understand the choices that they made.
 
All the Shinigami in death note got a really good design to them, so I kind of agree it was kind of a waste that they didn't play a larger role. Which now that I think of it no human saw him, I think?

So.. maybe they should design him more 'milder' rather than look 'combative' as he is now

Yes only certain human who made interaction with Death Note can see him haha..
