Origin of Dragon Ball

The origin of Dragon Ball series is Chinese classic novel Journey to the West, or.. it's parody of the novel to be exact. In the novel.. a priest from Tang dynasty is making a journey to India to get a manuscript of Holy Book in Thunder temple, the Priest then accompanied by Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing

In Dragon Ball, Priest Xuanzhang is Bulma, Sun Wukong is Goku, Zhu Bajie is Oolong, and Sha Wujing is Yamcha. Also.. the mission to get the Holy Book was changed into collecting 7 Dragon Balls

This wasn’t really a secret, as Journey to the West is fairly well known in Japan, especially with the concept of Goku. Sun Wukong is pronounced Son Goku in Japanese, and what’s Goku called in Japanese? Son Goku.

Sun Wukong also is a monkey who fights with a stick and flies around on a cloud. Guess who else fights with a stick and flies around on a cloud?
