National championship in sports anime

Jengoku seho or whatever the pronunciation is heard in every sports anime. I get that everyone dreams about sports and championship....but I don't see anyone playing sports just for fun.
It is not real life and some things need not be in anime.
What do you guys think?

everything should have a goal to keep them motivated.
if they are doing the hard work then they should get rewarded accordingly. why don't you like them?
