Magical girl fans, how would YOU make a magical girl anime?

Would you make it dark? Or would you make it something like Sailor moon? What would be your choice?
I wouldn't want to make a magical girl anime.
 
I'd make it similar to Magic Knight Rayearth, it was a great anime. Girls sucked into a different world, called to be that world's champions, to train and work their way towards a magic power in order to defeat a villain. I like that sort of story, and I like it more when the girls have to endure struggles, torments and more. It makes it more interesting to watch.
 
I make it a bit dark, like they would have to give up their powers for one magical girl to become strong enough to defeat evil leading to lots of emotions.
 
There's also the possibility of having them have to face one another and possibly defeat one another in order to save the world/universe/etc. within the storyline.
