This series is kinda unique. Usually.. the main protagonist are the most powerful, most skillfull or most everything and get the honor of kicking main villain ass, but the main protagonist, Hikaru Ichijyo, is not the best pilot in this series. Surely he got some talents by winning 7 flying competition before joining the military BUT! pilot like Maximilian Jenius, Millia Fallyna and Roy Focker outrank him in term of skills, even at the end of story Hikaru never catch up to them (in my opinion)
Talk about honor of defeating the main villain.. where is Hikaru when Macross waging the final war with Zentradi main fleet? Well.. shot down and fall to earth haha.. okay i know, that was a stage for him to reunited with Misa but still.. haha!
