I like the love triangle between those three. How's the story? Let's check it out..
Hikaru first met Minmay in the South Atalia island, in Macross city when the Zentradi attack earth. Somehow Hikaru managed to save Minmay from danger, after that Hikaru start to like Minmay (who's not? She's cute) and decide to join the military to protect her.
In the military Hikaru met Misa, his superior officer and start the relationship as officer-soldier. Misa on the other hand, is kinda depressed woman, she desperately need love after losing his boyfriend in unification war.
As time goes by.. Minmay win Miss Macross Contest and make her way into stardom, Hikaru who made achievement in his military carreer also get promotion. Both of them become busy with their activities, but Hikaru still love Minmay deeply. Hikaru want to tell his feelings to Minmay but still have doubt of himself because in press conference she keep telling that Hikaru is a friend, and that hit his confident hard, and to add insult to injury Minmay show affection to her cousin Kaifun which is also stand in Hikaru's way to Minmay because he hate military.
Meanwhile everything went smooth with Misa, gradually things get better with them after they getting used to each other from military missions, especially the 'kissing incident' with Hikaru when they get caught by Zentradi. Claudia (Misa's friend) is the first one to realized compatibility between Misa and Hikaru, she tried her best to direct Misa to Hikaru. As Kaifun become obstacle between Hikaru and Minmay, he is also affecting Misa as well, he looks like her ex-boyfriend who died on the war, for a moment Misa like Kaifun but after she realized that Kaifun love Minmay she step down from the stage and follow Claudia's advice to go for Hikaru.
Near the final war with Zentradi's main fleet Hikaru saw Kaifun kiss Minmay and it's break his heart a lot. And just before the last war, Hikaru confess his feeling to Minmay, which is blocked by Kaifun.
2 years after the final war, Hikaru still love Minmay but they never meet because of their activities (like before), meanwhile Misa's feeling to Hikaru get stagnant because Hikaru still have Misa in his heart, she fear rejection and can only buried her feelings inside her heart but actually things went smooth for Hikaru and Misa as they live in the same world (military)
Things begin to change when Kaifun is actually a jerk. Minmay get tired of him and run to Hikaru, she get shocked when she Saw Hikaru walk together with Misa but she got the courage to try to get close with Hikaru once again. Misa know Minmay close to Hikaru again, she even know Minmay hide in Hikaru's home to avoid the media.
Minmay want things to get back like the old days when she and Hikaru close together, she even want to quit from singing and ask Hikaru to quit the Military as well. Misa, who lost all hope accept offer from Commander Global to go into space to begin space colonization project, she think that she won't meet Hikaru again if she go to space.
So for the first time Misa become bold and have the courage to tell Hikaru her feeling. At this point, it becomes clear to Hikaru that he must choose one between Misa and Minmay, and he choose Misa.
