Let's talk about useless character.. Misa Amane

I've seen some opinion said Misa Amane is a useless character, but really? Okay.. set aside my personal fondness to her, i do think she's not useless character. Well if the standard is someone like Erza Scarlet or Nami, and you actually expect Misa do some cool actions like them then yea.. she would be useless. But in for me, she play important part in the annihilation of L and that's pretty cool too

I've also heard about she's being used by Light all the time. Okay.. so she's being used like a tool, i'd say she's a useful tool. So for me it's like this.. no Misa no Rem, no Rem no death for L. She's important part of the story

So who is example of useless character? Look at Kishimoto from Gantz, she's not contribute anything to the story, when she's alive she can't do anything for the team, and then she died for most of the time. Yea, character like that is useless, so.. once again, Misa is not useless

People hate Misa because she’s really ditzy, and while many people already find that annoying, having a character like that is more annoying when it’s a show about super genius cat and mouse games.

People aren’t fond of human plot devices, especially one that leads the protagonist to getting captured.

Imagine this being about thieves breaking into a facility to steal things, and she’s the character that’s always setting off the alarms and traps.

Yea but i doesn't change the fact that she contribute something to the while storyline. I'd prefer to call her annoying than useless

You can have a character that’s technically useful for the story, but useless in the universe. The person in my previous example might have that one use later on in the story, but when it comes to trying to not get caught, they’re useless.

I've heard. But this is about Death Note, Death Note is not that kind of character driven stories
But well.. it's up to you, it's totally okay if you want Misa to be useless because you're not alone, lot of people have same opinion. I'm getting used in having different opinion and see thing in different perspective

The initial comment looked like a generalization statement. You could argue that Death Note is a character driven story, just not a character driven show with little to no story. The characters are just as important to the story. Miss’s ineffectiveness does contribute to the story, but that doesn’t make her not an ineffective character.

It does seem a bit blind to willingly ignore characterization and character actions when there are relatively few contributions to the story.

Tbh I wouldn't consider a character's ineffectiveness as an opinion, as there's quantifiable evidence to come to a conclusion. Contrast that to a character being annoying, as being annoying is based off of whether or not you like certain character traits.

That's why I said you're coming off as being blind, as you're basically ignoring a fact to make an opinion, which isn't a good practice to have. You stated earlier you like the character, so it really looks like because you like the character, you're elevating the stature of the character. People don't want to admit that they like something (or someone) that's heavily flawed, but there isn't inherently wrong with liking something like that.

I love using examples, so let's use one to depict how your stance looks to me. Let's say we're discussing a video game, but the game is broken. Typical things such as unresponsive controls, incredibly glitchy, and you're constantly restarting the game because the character gets stuck in the floor, or it just crashes.

You come along and create a thread saying that you love the game, get lost in it for hours, and you don't understand why people think it's broken. I come in, state the above, but you refute that by stating "well that's your opinion, but I feel that if you have fun playing a game, that doesn't mean it's broken".

That's why I mean when I say you're using an opinion to refute factual evidence. I'm not saying you can't enjoy the game, but because you enjoy the game, that doesn't make the game not broken. You see what I'm getting at here?

I don't like such characters myself
They are too self-centered and are totally annoying.

Well it's just her characters, she actually contribute something to The story
