Is watching bad anime really necessary to appreciate the good?

I don't think it's necessary.
To be honest, I don't think I can watch such anime. What about you guys? Do you feel the same? Do you think it's necessary to appreciate the good ones?
 
I wouldn’t say it let’s you appreciate what’s good, but maybe the stuff that’s not great. “Oh, I thought this show was bad, but seeing that this show is significantly worse, the other show wasn’t as bad as I thought”

I don't see the purpose behind this
If something doesn't impress you, then that's all it has to offer to you.
 
I think when you are new to a medium, yes, you probably don't know a lot of people who watch it and sometimes you have to venture into the unknown. It has happened a lot. The advantage I have is the I got into anime when I was 14 so while my tastes were still evolving I could consciously differentiate between "good" and "bad" and I can do it a lot better now given that my tastes are somewhat different now and I've jogged down my preferences.

Usually by watching an anime, leave an impression on you and if it's good, then it's a good anime
 
Not really, if it's good them it's good, it just natural if we appreciate good thing. It's not  romance where we must lose someone to feel their importance to us lol

I will be honest..if it's bad and just can't gain my attention then I will drop it.simple
As for star's question I believe that whether you watch bad anime or good ones if it's good enough in production and other fields then you wouldn't need to compare it to see how amazing it is
