Is mecha anime genre popular only for it's figures in the market?

i think this might be the reason
most of the mecha genre doesn't have enough good story to make them very popular

Watch Super Dimension Fortress Macross and Gundam Wing, they can change your mind about mecha, the story are great. I haven't watched newer mecha so i can't tell you today's Mecha anime

thank you
but don't you think the figures are you popular for the mecha franchise?

That's a very bad accusation man.
I never thought of it like that at all. Figures alone can't monopolize a market

That could be a reason, but in some cases the figures are just an extension of a good anime, there are so many good mecha stories and therefore good figures, but i think the genre is popular because giant freaking robots!! XD

there are many anime bootlegs star.
why do to think that? because they can't get enough of figures and usually mecha figures sells out fast

Actually, there is a whole market of "home made" figures, and it runs mostly because of the passion for making toys/gunplas/scale figures/etc.

And they even have a whole event in Japan where people can sell those figures.

You'll find bootlegs of anything, not just mechas, but giant robots are always a safe bet XD

yes i agree
usually i don't find characters unless they are very popular like goku bit gundam figures are found everywhere

I mean that's one of the primary reasons yeah but up until the late 90's to early 2000's there were lots of Mecha shows being released, obviously the main ones being Gundam and Macross, but there were other great stuff like Evangelion, Eureka Seven, FLCL, Code Geass, Gurren Lagann.
Evangelion literally changed the anime industry forever and it was mecha.
