Is it just me or Mecha series is kinda rare now?

Outside of the super robot subgenre, mecha has been more of a niche genre for decades, so you just don’t hear about it. Outside of the American Gundam boom in the late 90’s/very early 00’s, I can probably count on one hand how many mecha shows that came out since then are brought up outside of hardcore mecha fans. Tbh not a lot of the pre-Toonami shows are brought up much either...

You could also throw into consideration how Sunrise was the leader of the genre for ages, monopolized on a lot of mech designers, but Love Live is their new cash cow franchise.

It's unfortunate.. i miss those mechas, they have specialty place on my heart Haha.. especially super robot
I guess a lot of the military/political drama in most of the shows is too dry for a lot of people. I noticed that mecha felt like one of those genres where you can easily tell a fan's age based on the only 5ish shows of the genre they care about, until you meet that one hardcore mecha fan.
