I don't think it's rushed. There were rumors about that meteor for quite sometime before that country gave up on it.

A more satisfying arc for both the main characters. They suddenly shifted gears when they introduced the meteor storyline and it wasn't done very well.

I see. Well, people suddenly do things to animals, after something snapped inside of them. For shishigami, it is the suicide of that guy in that train station.
