Introducing new powerful character

Sometimes to justified the power of new introduced character the author will just kick an old character ass. Classic example.. look how easy Trunk slice and dice Freeza

Well.. actually i didn't like this method, especially when the author use an established long time character for display of new character's power. I was especially pissed off when bunch of new character beaten up the Tohoshinki in Beelzebub in the last arc of the series and how in Captain Tsubasa Golden-23 totally unknown player butchered established player like Soda, Jito and Wakashimazu

I'm aware that this method is the most effective, easy and people like it. But i do think this is dork, they should find another way to tell audiences that the new character is powerful, maybe like.. create another new character (which is also said powerful) and let the supposed new character kick their ass, or maybe just use lesser known old character for the display of might of the new character

That's the way pawns work for a series.
I am not a fan of it but I can understand why it's needed
