How influenced are you to watch an anime by its reputation?

So what do you think?
Based on the reputation alone, would you try to watch an anime? Or avoid as well? As for me, if the reviews are bad, then I wouldn't want to watch such anime.

Sometimes overhype can be annoying for me. Being really popular is one thing, but constantly telling me it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread is going to have the opposite effect.

One thing I'm glad about the past few years is I've watched almost every "popular" anime when it aired so I wasn't affected by it. If I had watched Demon Slayer well after it blew up because of episode 19 I'd have been disappointed because that wasn't even my favorite episode/arc.

To be honest if an anime has a VERY bad rating i won't bother. But i'll try anything that is over 5/10

Have you ever avoided anything just because someone recommended it too many times?
I have never done that before

The two most prominent was when the first season of Attack on Titan came out, and for the movie Avatar

There's plenty of classic animes I've still yet to watch so I'd say I'm not too influenced by popularity.
Being recommended something over and over can be annoying, and sometimes it can have the opposite effect on me too, but I try to overlook it and just see the other person as being really passionate about it.

It's easy to ignore such things.
I am sure I have done that before when Boku no hero academia was recommended to me. I haven't watched the sequel even now.

It’s kind of hard when you know these people irl, some at work, and have to hear them whine at you over and over to watch it.

I don't have to worry about it all that much as anime is not that popular over here

you are lucky and unlucky star
and i am sure you would want to see a lot of people around you who appreciates anime in general.
