Football anime. Giant Killing really give nice fresh air to this genre. How? It's about the manager!
Giant Killing's main protagonist Tatsumi is a football coach, so this series give more attention and emphasis to the outfield staff like manager and coaches. We see how they are actually important part of the team with their analysis of the game and tactical decision
This is very refreshing because football anime never pay too much attention to the coach, they give lot of attention and emphasis to team's captain instead, example.. Captain Tsubasa, Shoot!, Kickers and the others
On those series coach is no different than cheerleader that appear occasionally. Shoot! is the worst, they don't even have coach. But somehow after Giant Killing released it give new breeze to football anime, look at new Tsubasa series, Golden 23, in that series coach Kira actually have role he give direction and tactical changed to the team. This is really good thing for this genre
