How do you separate dark from edgy in anime?

Seriously, I don't really understand what you meant by this but I believe that if it's something possible to be done, it would be.

Well as long as the movie/series is watchable, I won't need to separate it's category. Even though I too have no idea how to separate these two. Edgy actually have much more mature content than dark ones.
