Forum software change and your opinions

What do you guys think of a forum software change?
I have been thinking of moving to Xenforo for sometime now...but there is a risk in that. We might lose all the data, if something goes wrong and I am not confident enough to perform the migration myself. I have been looking into conversion services but according to some companies, our forum is big and they need $800 (well $795 to be exact) for conversion alone (_ _)
We can get a Xenforo license with $140 all but this is, just too expensive.
Anyway, before I start thinking about anything else, what do you guys think?

We have been experiencing various issues. Theme issues, product issues, you name it. Mybb support is good but they can't provide solutions for everyone. I have been waiting for their reply for more than 3 days now. We can't fix our dark themes yet, for the same reason.

I'll just say the same thing here as in that other thread. I'd be fine if we didn't transfer and just kept this forum seperate as an archive like we do NBF. No conversion required.

Xenforo is my favorite forum software so I'd be glad to move over even if we lose the post here I wouldn't mind we could easily remake the popular big threads or main sticky posts but like burnsy said if we could archive it that would be nice. I have a feeling a few post count obsessed people might now be down with a reset.

That's a lot of cost needed. Well in that case i'm okay with this as long as we can still talk
Thank you for your inputs, Poseidon :D

Um...that is different kiddo.
We didn't host anything in our server. We used disqus hosting system and just displayed them in our site. Now though, we need a forum software to display something. So, that's not possible.

but i won't be reading the same manga and this posts would be lost forever.
how can i agree to this? i made so many posts and i would lose all my motivation and i might leave if that were to happen

It's actually easy to transfer, you can even run tests on a test setup till you get it right as well with no cost. Your only issue it seems is that you need to run xenforo 1, import your mybb data, then upgrade to xenforo 2. So you're looking at a few hours of work.

is there a way to protect all these posts?
i don't want to start over my post count again. can i still have special colors too?

I don't know how to feel about this man.
You are going to lose many members if you go down this route. You always said we couldn't get the old members back. So why are we doing this?

I don't get it. Just keep mybb active in a subdomain and start a new forum however you want in the main domain or another subdomain. What's wrong with that.

Like 90% of your post are in threads that no one will ever open up or read again, take this exact post for example its not like we are talking about anything to important that needs to be framed and remembered as a significant piece of history. We are just chatting about anime and random topics when I talk about the same stuff here on messaging apps its not like I care if the messages go away one day.

There is like 10 active members and most seem to be okay except the post count obsessed people. Why? Because it is a much better software I mean look at this one its full of bugs and problems with a new one added every week.

I used forums that used vb but not xenforo man.
Every forum software is prone to have bugs and we are using a custom theme and that support might be poor too.

have you seen all the new members?
they were reading my posts but didn't make any posts of their own in fear of prejudice. you can't say this and @blackrose replies to most of my threads in that section

Well I just check the members list and there is so many new accounts in there but almost all of them haven't activated their email which makes me think there is a problem.

That's going to be the death of us.
We have limited resources. We are already using most of the storage space and CPU space allocated to us. We can't afford to have two forum software...
