Maybe the author is lazy, or to give emphasize that they are father and son by design them looks alike

Or he wants others to recognize him based on the looks alone.

Maybe. Oh yea Shinichi Kudo (Detective Conan) is also looks like his father haha..
 
Oh there's a lot of, and is funny, when parent are home, and that's not that common in anime, they really look like their child, like in Boku no Hero Academia, Baguko and his Mom is just a gender swap XD

you can't say who is who if isn't for the clothes or hair of the character
