Eva is not a mecha

Despite their looks, Eva.. in the story of Evangelion is actually not a mecha, they are like living organism with flesh and blood. The mecha looking appearance is because of the outer armor they wear

Hints of this can be seen many times through out the series if you pay good attention

I was gonna say. Saying biggest mecha anime in the past 30 years isn’t a mecha is being silly at best.

If we talk about genre well yes it's Mecha anime..
About Eva.. from my understanding, maybe they make the body of the Eva (genetically or something) and then put the armor later after the body finished
