I think people overuse it for basically anything in general, and don’t exactly know what it means.
A lot of people tend to think it means “it’s popular and I don’t like it”. It seems obvious to me when people are baffled when I say I like something, and say it’s overrated, like it’s not possible to do both.

and i am sure most of the anime got hype going on for them, for sometime and others believe they are all overrated.

Honestly, anything that has a certain degree of popularity or critical praise can be seen as overrated to people. It’s all subjective.
