Do you think anime is good at being scary?

I believe it's like any other live action or movie.
What do you guys think? Do you feel the same? If not, why is that?

There have only been two animes that had characters that frighten me, Cell from DBZ (when I was young) and these days the devils from Black Clover, Zagred to be exact. Freaked me the hell out!

I haven't seen or heard of an anime that could genuinely make me scared. If anyone has suggestions let me know

try hellsing
it's a really good one and i would think it's scary enough. but if you really want to handle torture and other things in manga, i have a recommendation for you. ki11ing $talking manga. it's a really messed up one.

To me, anime can definitely be *unsettling* at least, but that's always psychological horror. I don't like horror in any media format, but not because it scares me, just because I think there's no point to gore and jumpscares. Good psychological horror that can make you feel completely unsettled though, I'll watch any day of the week (well, not really, but you get my point). I binged the entirety of Happy Sugar Life in a single night, and I had extremely creepy dreams - not actual nightmares, but yeah... I woke up feeling unsettled. Death Parade was also very good at this, though it had some 'normal anime moments' that kinda ruined the mood at times. I feel an anime that tries to be unsettling should strive to set a mood and to maintain this mood at all times. But yeah, there's my opinion on the subject.

I might have to check out Happy Sugar Life. I've never heard of it but after a quick google and i think it looks pretty cool!
