I do that sometimes.

I think even in Sangatsu no lion , I had to do it as well. The dialogues are too fast in that anime

I can usually keep up with it even if it's 2 characters talking at the same time. But sometimes it's just too much

That's great. If I know at least some of the words, I can do that as well but at this Sangatsu no lion used a lot of game related words, I couldn't keep up with it

I don't often change the speed of any anime. Only if something is very good and I would like to watch it again, only then I would go back to that point, to rewatch it

Just because people are from Japan they don't have to know about anime and some people each migrate to other countries, don't know the language either

There have definitely been instances in the past where the sub group paces the subtitle timings a bit poorly and you might have to rewind, but I can't say I encountered too many instances like this. But for sure, it does happen.

Still, it shouldn't have been hard for you as you know the language.
For us, we have to keep on pausing the text part and try to understand what's going on. It happens often in anime

like the accent or it could be anything else lol.
