Do characters sharing your nationality make them more relatable to you?

For me, it doesn't really matter.
But I do understand a little more of the customs, if the characters share the same nationality, as me.
Is it the same for you as well?

that's good to know star
me too and we can understand why they have taken the decisions they have made. i agree too here

i didn't expect that
usually it makes me happy to think about something could be related to me for my favourite character

i mean... there's no anime characters that're indian (north american indian) so i don't bother worrying about nationality

Not really no for me personally.

It shouldn't matter to anyone for that matter
No way can all of us share the same nationality and you shouldn't feel territorial like this

It is always a highlight seeing our culture represented in another medium when is not done as a tool to talk crap about our nation.

Mexico has a big sense of humour and we love things like Speedy Gonzales because he's a smart and good hearted guy, despite the outfit and putting the town he lives like lazy mice. Mario Odyssey level it was the Mexicans telling the others that were talking on our behalf to Nintendo about the offensiveness that we weren't offended but glad Nintendo looked our way.

So, of course I'd probably be on board with more Mexican representation in anime. That said I don't think I can really recall any Mexican character from the top of my head.

I see
I don't think I know any such character either :D I will have to look into it

I am sorry to hear that.
Sometimes people take it offensive just because they love their country a lot.

Not nationality because 99% of the portrayals by foreigners have either been stereotypical, veering into caricature and sometimes pretty racist. I'd rather they portray their own culture, for my own I have stuff to watch here.

that's a good point
but if they want something different for their series, then they will have no choice but to include other nations

I think that extreme behavior is because of the lack of knowledge.
They wouldn't know much and yet they try to portray a few things.
