Can you imagine India having only one language?

I really don't want to but right now, only Hindi is known to many people in India, among all our local languages.
It's not bad to unite the country with just one language but each state got it's language, traditions, customs and such. I don't them to lose them. What are your thoughts about this?

All European countries are culturally, linguistically, traditionally, etc. different, yet the EU keeps on trying to force the continent to be all the same.

It works when it comes to currencies (half-EU only), cross-border travelling, etc..
But not when it comes to culture, language, tradition, customs, etc., people actually strongly oppose these to be one and the same thing.

But as a result, with EU being as totalitarian as it always has been, they're importing illegal migrants from totally incompatible cultures and hope these migrants will completely replace all Europeans so that their dream of a super state can become a reality.

I know you're talking about India, I just realised I never finished my point originally.
The point is that it's going to be next to impossible to enforce an entire country to ditch every single language they currently speak in exchange for a single language.
I took the EU as an example because I'm familiar with that and know they failed.

China also tried my forcing the whole country to use Mandarin, which ended up being the national language alongside the local languages China already had.
Same can be said about the Phillipines with Tagalog, and even back then with the Soviet Union, which merged multiple countries into 1 super state, and later on added a couple of countries in eastern Europe after world war 2 as "controlled by the USSR" rather than "part of the USSR", and lost Finland in the process.

I am weak in history...o.o
Wow... Guess you shouldn't force people to do something.
I really hope our country would never do something like forcing people... To speak only one language

I see. People preserve their culture. It's always the case and when someone tries to make them abondon their culture, they would revolt. If the external factor that is trying to change them, can understand them, it would be great otherwise trust issues would arise and eventually everything falls apart.

It's just not possible in Tamil Nadu. That I can say for sure. People here have too much pride in Tamil to accept Hindi. Heck, they refuse to learn Hindi. I don't mind learning Hindi, but many people I know vehemently are against it.
Plus, India is a bit too diverse for something like that to happen. They tried it in the 1960's and it produced disastrous results and they won't try it again.

Nope .. Wont happen, I guess.. There was this spat between sushma swaraj and shashi tharoor about making Hindi as a national language to represent India.. But it would cost a huge amount of money and tbh, those funds could be used to make ppl's lives better in terms of standard of living rather than creating a rift. If ya want ya can check that speech in YT. He owned sushma.

I see.
I do agree with that. I don't think anyone would bring it up again
