Kodansha announced on Tuesday that Hajime Isayama will end his Attack on Titan manga in the May issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Sh?nen Magazine on April 9, after 11 and a half years of serialization. The manga's 34th and final volume will ship on June 9.

Isayama noted that he had been saying since eight years ago that he would end the manga in three more years, but now he can finally end the manga as promised. He emphasized that the manga's length was not extended by the editors, but rather the question "when will it end?" often came up during the final push. He hopes fans will keep enjoying the manga until the end, and vowed to do his best until the finale.

Kodansha also teased that many projects are being prepared for the manga's conclusion, and noted that the manga has over 100 million copies in circulation worldwide.

Isayama reported in November that the manga is 1% to 2% away from completion.

Isayama launched the manga in Kodansha's Bessatsu Sh?nen Magazine in 2009. Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in English digitally and in print, and it published the 32nd volume on December 22.

Isayama previewed the rough layout draft for the final panel of the manga series on the MBS documentary program J?netsu Tairiku in November 2018, and stated in December 2019 that he had aimed to end the manga in 2020.

The first television anime season based on the manga premiered in April 2013, and the second season premiered in April 2017. The first part of the third season premiered in July 2018, and the second half premiered in Japan on the NHK General channel in April 2019. Attack on Titan The Final Season premiered on NHK on December 7 and will run for 16 episodes.

The manga has also inspired many spinoff manga and novels, several spinoff anime, video games, and a live-action film project. The manga has more than 100 million copies in print worldwide.

Damn with this pretty much only JoJo, One Piece and Hiatud x Hiatus remain among the popular shonen manga pre-2010. Heck even pre-2015. Truly the end of an era.

has it really been 11 years?
i thought it's recent enough and didn't notice the manga got released like 11 years ago.

It's a monthly manga and season 1 aired in 2013.

Currently watching the anime and wondering if anyone has finished the manga, do you think they will be able to adapt the rest into the final season or could we be looking at a part 2 or movie?

General thoughts right now is there will be a movie to finish it out. Considering what is happening, they will need a movie's quality to do it greatly.

That was really one of the most successful manga. It has anime as well as live action adaptation too. You could imagine how the story had been appreciated by the viewers.

The manga series have experience longevity. 34 years isn't an easy fate to accomplish when it comes to years it stayed on as manga series.

That's what the manga series enthralls according to the write up of the op. I believe that's just the longevity of the manga in the series line.

Omg, has it run for 34 years. That's a hell lot of time. I read it, but never knew it had run for such a long time.  :full:

I think they’re mixing up 34 years with 34 volumes. It’s only been around since 2009. 12 years is still a pretty good run.

Oh yes, that's the reason for its famousness. I heard the manga series which we misquoted as lasting to 34 years, isn't up to that number of years. It lasted for 12 years.
